Greetings Lighthouse Inc., Church Family,
We are standing on the edge of a cliff in which right and wrong weigh in the balances of the scales of justice before God. The arguments that will be made today and the judgments that come from the 9 Supreme Court Justices will send a signal to God. What will that signal be?
The arguments today involve the State of Mississippi’s ban on almost all abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy and a challenge to the Texas case in which a ban on abortion is banned after six-weeks. The ban in Texas just took effect on Sept. 1, 2021. The most important of these cases is the Mississippi case. The State of Mississippi’s position is as follows: There is no right to an abortion in the text of the Constitution, nor is there any general “right to privacy”.
Mississippi is asking the Supreme Court to overturn Roe versus Wade and Planned Parenthood versus Casey on the grounds that there was no past case precedent for these cases to be applied. Mississippi is standing on the principle that Courts should not make the laws but the people in each State should make the laws. By allowing the people to make the laws and not the Courts, this will ensure the democratic process is upheld.
“Mississippi attributes broader long-term effects to Roe and Casey, arguing that the rulings “have inflicted significant damage” to the Supreme Court by taking abortion off the table for public debate and giving it special treatment from the courts. Leaving the two cases in place, the state suggests, “harms this Court’s legitimacy”; by contrast, the state emphasizes, overruling them would affirm that “the Constitution leaves most issues,” including abortion, “to the people.”” [i]
We have a lot to pray about and the commonsense approach that the State of Mississippi has employed is being fought against by those who support Freedom of Choice.
